On February 17, 2021, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) held a remote interview program via a web conference system (Zoom) for the second-year junior high school students from Oizumi-Nishi Junior High School in Nerima Ward, Tokyo. At this program, we answered questions on line from the students about MMC's SDGs initiatives.
The students asked various questions, mainly about the SDGs, and MMC employees from the Community & Social Contribution Promotion Office answered these questions.
<Questions about the SDGs>
- "Why is MMC working to achieve the goals of the SDGs?"
- "Are there any efforts being made by MMC in its automobile manufacturing process to achieve MMC's SDGs goals?"
- "How does MMC reduce air pollutants emitted from its plants to prevent environmental pollution?"
- "What are the benefits of using thermoplastic resin for automotive parts?"
In addition to the above questions, we also received questions about occupations, such as about what makes the job worthwhile, qualifications needed for the job, daily work schedules.
■ Feedback from the teacher participated in the program
The students have been working to prepare for this program, such as doing prior learning, assigning each role and responsibility, and figuring out how to conduct the interview. I believe they have learned and absorbed many things via the interview. Also through MMC employees' thoughtful answers and comments to the questions about jobs, the students were not only able to learn more about the SDGs but also get an insight into their occupations, which would become a stepping-stone for their future.

From the questions asked by the students, I recognized that they had done a lot of research in advance on our SDGs initiatives, which made me very glad. At the same time, I realized that the SDGs are familiar topics also for junior high school students.
Although it was a short program, I hope that this interview will help the students deepen their learning about the SDGs and think about their future.
