On December 9, Thursday, MMC gave a lecture on risk management with focus on the effort to utilize electrified vehicles for prevention and reduction of disasters at Kyoto campus of Heian Jogakuin (St.Agnes') University. Mr. Hiroki Ohishi, General Manager of Community & Social Contribution Promotion Office and a promotion member of DENDO Community Support Program, a program to support utilization of electrified vehicles by municipalities, introduced examples of utilization of these vehicles during blackout. He also explained how to supply power using MMC's Eclipse Cross PHEV and lighted the illumination made by the students.
On Dec. 17, Friday, as we did last year, in order to realize the concept of "lighting of illumination with 100% renewable energy" presented by Heian Jogakuin University, we plan to charge power created from the solar panel at Kyoto Mitsubishi Motor Sales Co., Ltd. to Eclipse Cross PHEV and drive it to the university campus to supply the power from the vehicle to the illumination.
■Comment from students participated in the program
- The lecture gave me the opportunity to know about PHEV for the first time, although I had known about EVs. Also, this lecture made me understand the distinction between HEVs and PHEVs.
- I was amazed to learn that in rapid charger mode, it takes only 25 minutes* to charge an EV, while it takes 4.5 hours to charge an EV in normal mode.
※With Eclipse Cross PHEV, it takes 4 hours to fully charge from an AC200V fast charger and as little as 25 minutes to charge to 80% capacity with a DC rapid charger.
